Algo aconteceu fora do enquadramento.

Separações São Ilusões constrói sua narrativa justamente a partir daquilo que decide não mostrar.

Não há extraterrestres. Não há espaçonaves ocupando o centro da composição. Não existe o espetáculo visual normalmente associado às narrativas de primeiro contato.

O espectador recebe apenas indícios.

Uma figura diante de uma paisagem monumental. Um cavalo. Uma ave. A sensação de que alguma coisa extraordinária existe além dos limites da imagem.

A obra estabelece um diálogo indireto com outro encontro entre mundos: aquele que marcou a chegada dos europeus às Américas e deu início a séculos de colonização, exploração e violência.

Séculos depois, um novo encontro parece acontecer.

Mas a lógica foi alterada.

Não existe um território esperando para ser conquistado.

Não existe um povo esperando para ser civilizado.

Não existe necessariamente uma hierarquia entre aquele que chega e aquele que recebe.

Existe apenas a possibilidade de contato.

O cavalo adiciona uma camada temporal particular: um animal introduzido no continente durante processos coloniais aparece agora totalmente incorporado à vida e à paisagem daquele que o conduz. Aquilo que um dia foi estrangeiro tornou-se parte de uma nova realidade.

A ave, por sua vez, ocupa uma função intermediária. Ela não representa literalmente o outro, mas funciona como presença de passagem, comunicação e deslocamento entre diferentes territórios.

A imagem permanece deliberadamente incompleta.

Porque Separações São Ilusões não pretende representar outra civilização.

Pretende imaginar algo talvez ainda mais difícil: uma humanidade capaz de encontrar o desconhecido sem imediatamente transformá-lo em propriedade.

Something happened outside the frame.

Separations Are Illusions builds its narrative precisely from what it chooses not to show.

There are no extraterrestrials. There are no spacecraft occupying the center of the composition. There is none of the visual spectacle usually associated with first-contact narratives.

The viewer receives only traces.

A figure before a monumental landscape. A horse. A bird. The sense that something extraordinary exists beyond the edges of the image.

The work opens an indirect dialogue with another encounter between worlds: the one that marked the arrival of Europeans in the Americas and began centuries of colonization, exploitation and violence.

Centuries later, a new encounter seems to take place.

But the logic has changed.

There is no territory waiting to be conquered.

There is no people waiting to be civilized.

There is no necessary hierarchy between the one who arrives and the one who receives.

There is only the possibility of contact.

The horse adds a particular temporal layer: an animal introduced to the continent during colonial processes now appears fully incorporated into the life and landscape of the one who leads it. What was once foreign has become part of a new reality.

The bird, in turn, occupies an intermediary role. It does not literally represent the other, but functions as a presence of passage, communication and movement between different territories.

The image remains deliberately incomplete.

Because Separations Are Illusions does not intend to represent another civilization.

It intends to imagine something perhaps even harder: a humanity capable of encountering the unknown without immediately turning it into property.
